On Saturday, 26 Nov. 22, Minister of Lands, Hon. Deus Gumba, MP visited Chikwawa District to appreciate the activities being implemented by Shire Valley Transformation Project (SVTP). The critical activities being undertaken include Systematic Customary Land Registration and the Construction of irrigation water canal.
The Minister  inspected the Data Processing Unit which is responsible for Digital Customary Land youRegistration at Chikwawa District Council Office. Customary Land Registration will not only enhance ownership of land to Malawians, but also assist in solving land conflicts and grab issues which will go a long way in achieving Malawi Vision 2063.  He appreciated the process of registering customary land parcels in TA Kasisi.
" I was impressed to learn that over 46,000 customary land parcels belonging to smallholder farmers have been adjudicated, registered and maps produced.   A statement will be made in Parliament soon on the same," he said.
Had also visited the construction site for water canal at Kapichira intake. The canal will cover a distance of about 133km from the intake at Kapichira Dam to Bangula in Nsanje. The water canal will be instrumental for providing irrigation water which will help farmers to produce crops at least twice a year thereby contributing to Government efforts of making Malawi food secure as well as commercialising agriculture.
The Chakwera Administration is committed to righting the wrongs of history in as far as land administration is concerned by coming up with fine pieces of legislation and also making sure that agricultural productivity increases through irrigation to benefit Malawians.
